Why Choose the GSCC NP Residency Program?

As a recently graduated nurse practitioner, choosing the GSCC Residency Program can significantly enhance your professional development and career trajectory. This program offers a comprehensive, hands-on, and personalized learning experience tailored to develop your clinical skills, confidence, and proficiency. In addition, you'll be working with experienced healthcare providers across various disciplines, giving you the opportunity to broaden your knowledge base and gain invaluable practical experience. With its high-quality, interdisciplinary approach, the GSCC Residency Program not only provides a robust learning platform but also equips you with the necessary skills to cater to diverse patient populations. This exposure, combined with the opportunity to serve in a National Health Service Corps designated site with a high Health Professional Shortage Area score, ensures you make a tangible difference in underserved communities, all while furthering your professional growth.

Program Qualifications:

  • Education: Applicants must have graduated from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

  • Certification: Applicants should hold a current and unrestricted NP license in Oklahoma or be able to obtain one at least 2 months prior to the program start date.

  • National Certification: Prospective candidates should also have national certification from an approved certifying body, such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

  • Commitment to Primary Care: Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to primary care and serving in underserved areas. This can often be illustrated through previous work, volunteering, or experiences during their NP education.

  • New Graduates: Preference is often given to new graduates or those who have graduated within the 18 months preceding the program start date. This requirement is because the program is designed to support the transition from education to practice.

  • Professional Skills: Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills, the ability to work within interdisciplinary teams, and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

  • Background Check and Drug Screening: Candidates may need to undergo a criminal background check and drug screening as part of the application process.

Application Requirements:

  • Transcripts: Applicants should submit official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended, including from the accredited Nurse Practitioner program where they received their degree.

  • Licensure and Certification: Applicants must provide a copy of their current and unrestricted state NP license and national certification from an approved body such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

  • Resume/CV: A current resume or CV outlining academic achievements, work experience, volunteer work, leadership roles, awards, and any additional relevant experiences or skills should be included. The Resume/CV should include NP clinical hours with speciality, location, and description of duties.

  • Letters of Recommendation: Three letters of recommendation are required. These letters should ideally come from individuals who can attest to the applicant's qualifications, such as professors, clinical preceptors, or employers. Please ensure the contact information for the individual supplying the letter of recommendation is included.

  • Statement of Purpose: Applicants must submit a personal statement outlining their interest in the residency program, their commitment to primary care, and their long-term career goals.

Application Process:

  1. Application Submission: Applicants must fill out an online application form, providing all necessary details and documents as outlined in the application requirements.

  2. Review: After the submission deadline, the application will be reviewed by the program's selection committee.

  3. Interview: Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview. This could be in person, over the phone, or via video conferencing, depending on the program's preference or due to logistics and convenience.

  4. Decision: Successful candidates will be notified of their acceptance into the program. Once accepted, candidates may be required to complete additional paperwork, such as a background check and drug screening, before starting the program.
